Full Speed Ahead
June surges with the summer.
This month has been travel CRAZY!
It started with us in Chicago for the Chicago Steampunk Expo. That event was super fun and super similar to Teslacon in November. Tesla is my biggest event of the year, but with similar clientele, I’m curious to see if that will hold true this year or if Chicago will have shared part of those profits. Either way, we had fun, and I’m glad we went as a family. The kiddo and spouse had lots of fun too. We got to see family as they made the trip out on Friday night, and those types of dinners always mean something extra.
Then we had a week of recovery and warm weather. Our fire pit decided it was done fire pit-ing, but we still had lots of campfire cooking fun and solid tent time. I’m glad we took it because the rest of the month was not as friendly in its weather.
For the third weekend, we were off to Green Bay for a first-time event: Pack in the Readers. Now, truth be told, I only put in for this event because a friend of mine was a sponsor, and the thought of spending the weekend with her sounded super fun (and it was!). The hubby and kiddo also came along for this, but we were mostly on separate schedules. The event itself was nice. There were some things I didn’t love, but compared to the fiascos of other first-time events, it certainly held its own. I got to meet a lot of other great authors there, too, and that is always of noted value as well.
Another weekend off after this that was accompanied by a major heat wave. Eww. There was no fire or tent to be bad this weekend. My spouse also went to the doc for a nagging shoulder pain and was put in a sling until fall. Crazy high heat + a one-armed spouse = lots of downtime in AC.
The final weekend came quicker than you’d think. On Saturday, we spent the day at the summer camp with the Girl Scouts and on Sunday, I was off to another signing. KBF is typically one of my favorite summer events, but this one was a bit tiring. It was super hot, a parade prevented people from getting to us, and 5 am wake-ups after a full day at camp are rough. I still made twice my table amount, which is great, but man, did I sleep in late that following Monday. I was beat.
Onto July we go! July is much slower. An even balance between our found family and book events. I am excited for the breather and am looking forward to being with my people and continuing on with my dream equally. Maybe I’ll even have a fun surprise to share. 😉
